John Munizza Obituary

John L. Munizza, known by his friends as "Giddy" for his sunny disposition, of Sewickley and Moon Township, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Wexford House at age 86. He was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Sewickley, to the late Joseph and Mary (Pellegrino) Munizza. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Angeline (Pennetti) Munizza, in December of 2003. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings, Frank Vescio, Thomasina "Muzzy" Vescio, Margaret Vescio Roppa, Jerry Vescio and James Munizza. He is survived by his beloved sister, Frances Munizza, of Sewickley; and many devoted nieces and nephews along with numerous friends. John was owner of Munizza Beer Distributor located on Walnut Street in Sewickley. He also was owner of the Glass Tower Motor Inn with his brother, Jim, in Moon Township for 35 years. John loved sports and was a member of St. James Church. There will be no visitation. Everyone is welcome to Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at St. James Church, with the Rev. Thomas J. Burke as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. James Church, 200 Walnut St., Sewickley, PA 15143; or National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame (NIASHF) (an organization that has provided scholarships to Italian Americans for the past 25 years)ATTN: Tony Ferraro, 481 Glennhaven Drive, Glenshaw, PA 15116. "John, we will see you again in heaven someday." Arrangements by COPELAND'S SEWICKLEY.
