Patricia Smitz Obituary

Patricia (Patty) A. Smitz, 72, of Leetsdale, beloved and cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, Baba, and friend, who peacefully departed this earth at home on Nov. 20, 2024. Born in Sewickley, PA, on Aug. 11, 1952, Patty was the daughter of the late Matthew and Nellie (Lesak) Olexsovich. Patty's life was a testament to her unwavering love for her family, faith, and community. She was a devoted wife to the late Robert L. Smitz and an extraordinarily incredible mother to their two daughters, Lisa (Micheal) Mitchell, TN, and Dr. Linda (Bryan) Smitz Naranjo, GA. Her legacy lives on through her four cherished grandchildren, Miah Mitchell, Claire Naranjo, Trenton Mitchell, and Asher Naranjo. A graduate of Quaker Valley High School (1970) and Nursing School, Patty dedicated over two decades to a successful career as a private duty nurse. She later retired after more than 22 years of service at Saint James Catholic Church. Among her many accomplishments, she took immense pride in raising her two daughters, whom she considered life's greatest achievements. Patty was also a devoted member of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. A woman of deep integrity, Patty will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and generosity. She had an infectious laugh, a love for music and reading, and an enduring enthusiasm for Pittsburgh sports, particularly the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was also a devoted fan of Patrick Mahomes. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Olexsovich; her three sisters, Catherine Freed, Elizabeth Kostial, and Mary Ellen Olexsovich; her two brothers-in-law, Raymond Freed and Bruce Moon; and her sister-in-law, Kathy Olexsovich. She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters and their spouses, her four grandchildren, her brother, Richard Olexsovich of Baden; her sister, Stella Moon of Ambridge; her brother-in-law, Joseph Kostial of Baden; and her sister-in-law, Carol Olexsovich of Gibsonia; and many nieces and nephews. A private funeral service was held on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2024, at the BOHN-MATICH FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, with Fr Dan Valentine and Fr Clint Zadroga officiating. Patty's passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family and friends, but her memory will live on, inspiring resilience, kindness, and generosity in all who were privileged to know and love her.

When I worked at St. James, I met Patty. I enjoyed laughing and sharing stories about kids and life over many lunches. My condolences to her family, she loved you with all her heart! Keep the good memories of her in your heart. Joanne McDaniel
