Adam W. Bernd, 45, of Latrobe, died Friday, July 29, 2016, at his residence. Born March 4, 1971, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of Russell J. Bernd Jr. and Patricia A. (Sneary) Bernd, of Greensburg. Adam was an exceptional artist and musician and was a published poet. An avid sports fan, he faithfully cheered for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penn State and the Dallas Cowboys. He had formerly been employed by Shuster Homes, North Huntingdon, and was a life member of the VFW Post 3414, Latrobe. A veteran of the Army, he served with the 101st Airborne Division which supported the ground assault in Kuwait during the Gulf War. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his uncles, Roger Sneary, Jerome Bernd, Fred Castro and Gary Bernd. In addition to his parents, Adam is survived by his daughter, Stephanie M. Bernd, of Homer City; one brother, Russell J. Bernd III and his wife, Jamie, of Greensburg; two sisters, Angela R. Piper and her husband, Bryan, of Derry, and Rebecca A. Hugus and her husband, John, of South Greensburg; his nieces and nephews, Devin and Riley Bernd, Jennifer and Brittany Piper and James and Jacob Hugus, and his caretaker and good friend, Tom Ferrenberg, of Latrobe. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Excela Health Home Care & Hospice, especially Lois and Tammy, for their care, compassion and all of their help.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Mike Bobula officiating. Interment will follow at St. Clair Cemetery with military honors accorded by the VFW Post 33, Greensburg.
