Andrew P. Powanda

Andrew P. Powanda, 85, of North Huntingdon, died Wednesday, October 16, 2024. He was born March 16, 1939 in Clairton, the son of the late Andrew and Helen Powanda and was also preceded in death by his wife of over 65 years Hazel I. (Airgood) Powanda. He was an active member of St. Michaels Orthodox Church, McKeesport. Andy played the accordion since age 14. He played for many polka picnics and played with the Cafe Boys, the Tony Thiem Four, and various other performing groups. He owned the former C Bar in Manor in the 1970s, loved to swim, and was a jack of all trades. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for many years. He is survived by his children, Allen Powanda (Jeanne) of Irwin, Andrew 'Chip' Powanda (Marsha) of Jacksonville, FL, Kevin Powanda (Maggie) of Irwin, and Greg Powanda (Denise) of Irwin; his grandchildren, Nicholas (Chelsea) Powanda, Drew (Megan) Powanda, and Katelyn Graff (Christian); great-grandchildren, Nikolai and Ryland Powanda; and a brother, Michael Powanda of North Huntingdon. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, at the William Snyder Funeral Home, 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Jefferson Memorial Park.
