Arlene R. Hough

1934 - 2025

Arlene Ruth Oberlitner Hough, of Smithton, died peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, at Easy Living Estates in New Stanton. She was born on June 18, 1934, in Smithton, a daughter of the late Frank and Hazel Axel Oberlitner. Arlene was a member of the Barren Run United Methodist Church, a member of the former Golden Rule Class and a former trustee of the church. She was also a member of the former Eastern Star in Scottdale and was a graduate of South Huntingdon High School Class of 1952. Surviving are her two sons, James Hough Jr. and wife, Harriett Riggs Hough, and Keith Hough and wife, Trish Pastors Hough; two grandchildren, Jeremy Hough and wife, Nicole Poorbaugh Hough, and Jenna Hough Shuford and husband, Andrew, of Dallas, TX; along with three great-granddaughters, Nayvie Shea, Teagan Rurh, and Suttyn Jean Hough, all of Smithton. She is also survived by her brother, Frank Oberlitner, and wife, Roslyn, of McMurry; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, James Hough Sr.; and a sister, Margaret Peden. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, and from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, at Barren Run United Methodist Church, with the funeral service following at 2 p.m., officiated by Rev. Kimberly Foos. Burial will be in Barren Run Cemetery. A special thanks to the staff at Easy Living Estates for the great care given to Arlene and to those who visited and called.
