Bernadette Pevarnik Obituary

Bernadette "Bernie" Murphy Pevarnik, 86, of Latrobe, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, at her home. She was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Sharpsburg, a daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Moelk) Murphy. Bernie was a member of the St. Vincent Basilica Parish and attended daily Mass at the Carmelite Monastery. Bernie graduated from Latrobe High School in 1948, and married her sweetheart, Joe Pevarnik, in 1951. She worked as a Bell Telephone switchboard operator while Joe served his country in Korea. Upon his return, they moved to Lawson Heights in 1953, where they made their home. Bernie was an outstanding seamstress, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was about family - period. Any time a family gathering was about to end, Bernie would ask each of her children when they would visit next. The most recent family event was a pre-87th birthday celebration Saturday, Aug. 5, during which, she thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the family and playing with her great-grandchildren. Bernie is survived by her sister, Sister Cecilia Murphy, RSM at Mount Mercy; children, Karen Fennell, of Latrobe, Steve, and his wife, Flo, of St. James, N.C., Joe (Jacie), and his wife, Judy, of Woodbridge, Va., Matt, and his wife, Sandy, of Denver, Colo., and Mark, and his wife, Shellie, of McSherrystown; grandchildren, Joe Fennell, and his wife, Jamie, Kelly Fennell, Stephen Pevarnik, Maggie Lellock, and her husband, Ty, Alicia Fennell, Matthew Pevarnik, and his wife, Victoria, Chelsee Fennell Abare, and her husband, Tom, Adam Pevarnik, and his wife, Jana, Josh Pevarnik, Taylor Pevarnik, Kayla Pevarnik, Chloe Pevarnik, Jennifer Leigh, and her husband, Vince, and Jason Simpson; great-grandchildren, Abigal, Jacob, Jonah, Joshua, Lucas, Shimon, Hope, Aria, Rose, Iris, Meika, Pippa, Noah, Jocelyn and Janelle; two sisters-in-law, Grace Murphy and Esther Pevarnik, several nieces and nephews, and her dear friends, the Carmelite nuns. In addition to her parents, Bernie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe (2011); her granddaughter, Rachel Pevarnik (1992); and her siblings, Mary Broad, Eugene Murphy, Hugh Murphy, Michael Murphy, Sister Perpetua Murphy, SC, Ann Rusnock, and Patrick Murphy.
Friends will be received from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A funeral will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Vincent Basilica. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.
