Bernice J. Petri

Bernice Joan Petri, 95, of New Kensington, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, in Pleasant Ridge Nursing Home, Leechburg. She was born in Glassmere on July 17, 1930, to the late Fred George and Wanda Rose Janosky Guenther and had been a lifelong resident of the local area. Mrs. Petri was a beautician for 30 years who owned Bernice Beauty Shop in New Kensington. She was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, New Kensington, the Christian Mothers, Eagles Auxiliary, Ladies of Moose, and the I.A.E.S. Club. She enjoyed traveling and had been to seven countries, polka and dancing, going to the casino, decorating, making crafts, shopping, visits with former Pope John Paul II, and watching the Steelers play as a season ticket holder. She is survived by her son, Joel R. (Tracy) Petri of Raleigh, NC; two grandsons, Tyler and Zachary Petri; great-granddaughter, Amelia Petri; niece, Stacy Solomond; and two great-nephews, Raymond and Ian Slater. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Eugene Petri; brother, Fred Guenther Jr.; sister, Dorothy Prokopic; companion, George Couknas; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Friday at RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder St., where Prayers of Transfer will be said at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, New Kensington.
