Beth Obruba Obituary

Beth Ann Obruba, 40, of Columbia, S.C., passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2017. Born in Greensburg, Beth was the daughter of Jack Obruba and the late Kathryn Goltz Obruba. As an NCAA Division I All-American in the javelin and discus, she was inducted into the Kent State Athletics Hall of Fame. Beth was a strong and compassionate person who deeply loved her family and friends. She was the most selfless, genuine and fiercely loyal person you would ever meet; and as a courageous fighter of cancer for five years, she never complained. In addition to her father, she is survived by her partner, Sonya Dickey; brother, Patrick Obruba (Emmy); stepmother, Cindy Obruba; stepsisters, Ann Shipley and Amy Rath; grandmother, Ethel Goltz; nephews and nieces, Alexander, Nathaniel and Victoria Obruba, and Lydia Shipley; and many aunts, uncles and close friends.
A memorial service will be held later, with the burial in Westmoreland Memorial Park, Greensburg.

She was passionate and fierce as a competitor. She will be remembered for many things, one being an incredible team mate. This was evident in watching from another programs perspective.

To Sonya, To Beth's Family and Friends,

I worked with Beth for several years at HGBD. She has been described by many as a very strong woman who fought courageously against a desperately wicked disease. That is true but she was also one of the sweetest ladies I have ever had the privilege to know, to love and to work with. She was honest, good natured, always helpful, always put others first and full of integrity. The first day I met her, I knew I was going to love working with her and I knew she was a person of quality and of good character. That first impression proved to be true. She will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her.

There is no more pain for you sweet Beth.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Sonya and Family,

Tim Williams
