Charles Hawkins Obituary

Charles W. Hawkins, 82, of Ligonier, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, in the Barnes House, Latrobe. He was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Oil City, a son of the late Charles W. and Amy Olmes Hawkins Sr. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a real estate supervisor for Beneficial and Capital Finance. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Michael's of the Valley Church in Rector. After his retirement, he worked as a sales agent for Davies Real Estate in Ligonier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith "Ellie" Lorenz Hawkins in 2007. Charles is survived by his three daughters, Amy (James) Hahn, of Brewster, N.Y., Eleanor (Carl) Clark, of Berlin, and Sally (Frank) Harvey, of Derry; three sons, Charles W. Hawkins III, of Robinson, Ill., John H. (Cynthia) Hawkins, of Pflugerville, Texas, and Joseph H. (Tammy) Hawkins, of Cincinnati, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Charles' family received friends last Sunday at the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL CHAPEL INC., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier. A service to celebrate Charles' life was held last Monday in St. Michael's of the Valley with the Rev. Martin L. Wright III officiating. Interment followed in St. Michael's Cemetery.
