David Roy Simmons, of Fredericksburg, Va., formerly of Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, loving husband and father of two daughters, passed away Monday, May 31, 2021, at age 62, after a courageous battle with cancer. David was born Aug. 20, 1958, in Pittsburgh. A graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill, he began a career with Steamfitters Local Union No. 449 that spanned 44 years. His accomplishments were many, but some of which he was proud included running a successful business for nearly 20 years, obtaining his U.S. Coast Guard Captain's license, and on one occasion at the gym, a former pro-football player complimented him on his barbell back squat. Dave's unparalleled work ethic, humility, ingenuity and perseverance were evident throughout his life. Boating, fishing and hunting were a few of his pastimes. But these didn't compare to using his knowledge and expertise to help others whenever he could. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Cheryl (Klasterka) Simmons, daughters, Michelle Robinson and Maryann Simmons, sons-in-law, Brent Robinson and Ehren Wade respectively, and his two grandchildren who will deeply miss him, Grant and Kate Robinson. Dave is also survived by his mother, Carol Werling Simmons, sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Greg Graham, as well as many loving and dear nephews, nieces and friends. Family and friends are welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the WILLIAM F. CONROY FUNERAL HOME INC., 2944 Chartiers Ave., Sheraden. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday.
