Dennis John McCarthy, 70, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021. He was born May 28, 1951, in McKeesport, and was the son of the late John F. and Fanica (Mihaljevic) McCarthy. He was a member of St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon and was a retired teacher from the Norwin School District where he taught at the elementary and intermediate schools. He graduated from California State College and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the National Educational Association and the 3FE Toyota Land Cruiser organization. Denny's most-loved hobbies included camping with his family, traveling North America and Ireland, making home-cooked meals, working with his hands and "pinching pennies but buying a Lexus." Arguably, his favorite pastime was stirring the pot, and his ornery laugh will be missed by all his friends and family. Through all of his life, he met many struggles but never let them hold him back. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Ann (Ayres) McCarthy; daughter, Sara (Matt) Holmes; son, Paul (Julie) McCarthy, of North Huntingdon; grandchildren, Madelaine Holmes, Ronan, Maeve and Toms McCarthy; sisters, Claire (Joe) Strouse, of Williamsport, Patricia McCarthy, of New Market, N.H., and Jacqueline (John) Kittel, of Spokane, Wash.; brother, Paul (Madeline) McCarthy, of White Oak; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne McCarthy, who passed away on Oct. 11, 2021. He will be greatly missed by all. There is no visitation. Arrangements are by the GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 412-672-6322, Troy J. Gilbert, director. Condolences may be made at Gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com
