Dolores Jean (Jorewicz) Shirey, 90, of Greensburg, passed peacefully on the night of Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, in the comfort of her daughter's home. She was the youngest of seven children of the late Joseph P. and Josephine (Sarnicki) Jorewicz, born in Speers, baptized at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Monessen, and confirmed at St. Jerome in Charleroi. Dolores, from a young age, developed a strong work ethic and a sense of adventure. As a girl she swam across the Mon River through the wakes of passing barges and towboats. As a young woman, she traveled each day between Speers and Pittsburgh to work at Fidelity & Casualty Insurance in the Arrott Building. Dolores also loved to dance. That's how she met Donald, whom she called the best jitterbug partner ever, and he became her husband. Dolores traveled throughout her life. After she was widowed, she took many trips with her girlfriends and daughter within the U.S., South America, and Europe, including trips to Poland to visit distant cousins. She retired as a baker for the Hempfield Area School District. She treasured her friends at the Herminie Senior Center, where she loved to play cards and bingo, and Dolores had a remarkable green thumb, cultivating gorgeous flower gardens at her home in Youngwood. Her life will always be remembered for her perseverance and hard work, kindness, and generosity to everyone, especially her family, who loved her. Dolores reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Donald Shirey; her parents; and her siblings Irene, John, Jenny, Wayne, Edward, and Virginia, who predeceased her. Dolores is survived by her son, Donald Shirey; daughter, Deanne McNally and her husband, Christopher; grandsons, Andrew (Liza) and Brendan (Maggie) McNally; and many nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law. Please join us to celebrate and honor Dolores's life with a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service and committal prayers at 1 p.m., followed by a white dove release, on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at ASHLEY D.
