Douglas Spencer Obituary

Douglas Keith Spencer, 80, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., formerly of Pleasant Unity, passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, in the Shenandoah Center. Born Jan. 8, 1930, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late Stanley Edgel Spencer and Mary Margaret Trenton Spencer. Douglas was a graduate of Potomac State College, received a BS in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University and a MBA from University of Pittsburgh. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for more than 40 years as an electrical engineer for Allegheny Power in Greensburg, retired as a supervisor for Methods Standards, member of the Harpers Ferry Lion's Club, received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Humanitarian Service, member the Virginia Lodge No. 1 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE). He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy Weaver Spencer, at home; brother, Robert Spencer, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; brother-in-law, John L. Weaver and wife, Lois, of Greensburg; nieces, Heather Weaver and Julie and husband, Jared Loya; and nephew, Warren Crossley and wife, Carol. Funeral services with military honors will be held at noon Thursday at the JEFFERSON CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME with the Pastor Van Marsceau officiating, where the family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Entombment services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Clair Cemetery, Colonial Chapel Mausoleum, Greensburg, with the Rev. Duane Morford officiating. In lieu of flowers, family request donations to the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County, PO Box 147, Charles Town, WV 25414.
