Dwight R. "Deke" Guthrie II, 79, of Spring Church, passed away Friday, July 22, 2022. Born May 26, 1943, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of The Honorable W. "Mack" Guthrie and Roxie E. (Felmley) Guthrie. Dwight was a 1961 graduate of Apollo High School, and in 1965, obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Grove City College. He served our country with the Army. Dwight was employed by Guthrie Chevrolet for over 20 years, followed by a long career in sales. He was a member of the North Apollo Church of God, life member of the Apollo Elks Lodge #386, 50-year member of the Apollo Masonic Lodge #437 and former member of the Apollo Lions Club. Dwight loved classic cars, especially Chevrolet, and was a fan of NASCAR, the Pittsburgh Steelers and listening to Doo Wop music. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Adam S. Guthrie; brother, William C. Guthrie Sr.; sister-in-law, T. Louise (Cunningham) Guthrie; and his nephew, William C. Guthrie Jr. Dwight is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marsha K. (Smith) Guthrie; daughter, Emily (Jeff) Riley, of Kingsville, Md.; grandchildren, Deacon and Adalynn Riley; nephews, David (Cindy) Guthrie, Donald (Mary) Guthrie and Christopher (Abby) Smith; niece, Cindy (Waddell) Guthrie; many great-nieces and -nephews; a great-great nephew (and two on the way!); and his dear friend, Joe Homolek. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2022 in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Additional visitation will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 10 until the hour of service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Lee Rupert officiating. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
