Florence A. Watson

Florence A. (Smulczenski) Watson, of Altoona, Fla., went to be with our Lord and Savior Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, after her long battle with cancer. She was born in Export and resided in Blairsville until 1996 when she moved to Altoona, Fla., following her retirement from Latrobe Area Hospital. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was a registered nurse, a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in New Derry and a member of St. Hubert's Catholic Church in Umatilla, Fla. She loved to attend flea markets and auctions and loved to work crossword puzzles. She enjoyed calling bingo at the Shockley Hills Club and was very active in St. Hubert's parish. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia and Francis Smulczenski; two sisters, Leona Smulczenski and Irene Smulczenski-Gola; and two brothers, Edward Smulczenski and Frank Smulczenski. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, James H. Watson, of Altoona, Fla.; her son, James F. Watson and wife, Jennifer, of Canonsburg; her daughter, Julie Ann Writt, of Shallotte, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Brittany Writt, of Export, and Olivia Watson, of Canonsburg. The family received friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177. A blessing service for Florence took place at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Father Joseph Bonafed of St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church, Delmont, officiating. Private interment was in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
