Frank Maffessanti, 95, of Penn, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, in Easy Living Estates of New Stanton, with his loving family by his side. He was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Jeannette, a son of the late Vincenzo and Mary Josephine (Lapina) Maffessanti. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a graduate of Iowa State College and prior to retiring was employed for 40 years by Westinghouse Electro Mechanical Division. Frank was a World War II Navy veteran, having served aboard the USS Fessenden. He had attended US Navy Advanced Training. He was a longtime member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church, Harrison City, Jeannette American Legion Post 344, life member, and a member of the Barbershop Harmony Foundation in McKeesport. He was also past president of the Bushy Run Lions Club, Claridge. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Viola (DiClaudo) Maffessanti; and brothers, Earnest and Matthew Maffessanti. Frank will be greatly missed by his son, Dennis Maffessanti and his wife, Nina, of Penn; daughter, Claudia Dochinez and her husband, Pete, of Delmont; sister, Margaret DeNezza, of Penn; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by his grandchildren, Alana Maffessanti (Jules), Lacey Gionta (Paul), Danny Dochinez (Kaitlyn), Kevin Hursh (Katy), Erica Hursh (Jason) and Kristi Rose (Chris); and great-granddaughters, Evelyn, Aryanna and Maya, all of whom he was very proud.
Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177. Blessing and committal services for Frank will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Father Efren Ambre, of St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church, Delmont, officiating. Full military honors accorded by VFW Post 33 Honor Guard, Greensburg, will follow services. Private interment will be in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
