Franklin D. Manni

1949 - 2021

Franklin D. "Sonny" Manni, 71, of Freeport, passed away at his home Thursday, April 1, 2021. Born July 6, 1949, to the late Ann (Kaczkowski) and Frank Manni, Sonny was raised, worked and lived his entire life in the Valley. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Sonny owned and operated Manni's Wash Systems in Lower Burrell for 50 years, where he designed and manufactured complete carwash systems, parts and supplies. Known as the "Car Wash King", Sonny began his business venture acquiring an Exxon Gas Station, which he later converted into his first automatic brushless car wash. From there, his business operations expanded to include additional wash locations in the Valley as well as distribution of equipment and supplies to clients throughout the tri-state area. Sonny was also the former owner of Manni's Lighthouse Landing Marina in New Kensington. His love for the river, fast boats (more than a few hats were lost on the Allegheny) and fishing was his joy. He worked hard and played even harder. To know Sonny was to appreciate his unique sense of humor. Sonny is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 35 years, Barbara C. (Lelis) Manni; stepchildren, Kimberly (Eric) Smith and John Jason "JJ" (Kristianne) Jack; grandchildren, Tyler (Payton) Horwatt, Jessica and Kristy Lee Smith, Mackensey and Justin Jack. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Horwatt; sister, Joan Staley; and granddaughter, Kadyn Nikkole Jack. At the family's request, there will be no public visitation and burial will be private.
