Fred Surmacz Obituary

Fred Anthony Surmacz, 88, of Claridge, died on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 26, 1937, in Trafford, to the late Stanley and Mary (Cheplic) Surmacz. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brothers, Theodore (Virginia) and Eugene (Frances) Surmacz; mother- and father-in-law, Frank and Kathryn Shula. Fred worked in telecommunications management at Murrysville Telephone Company (Alltel), where he retired from. Fred was a fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams. He liked to golf and trap shoot in his younger years. He was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church in Harrison City. Fred is survived by his beloved spouse of 57 years, Carol A. (Shula) Surmacz; daughter, Stacy Barkovich; granddaughters, Haley and Kara Barkovich; as well as several nieces and nephews. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at St. Barbara Cemetery, Claridge. Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to the Excela Home Care and Hospice. online condolences can be given at www.Lindsay-JobeFuneralHome.com.
