Gary Smouse Obituary

Gary Lee Smouse, 67, of Jefferson Borough, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 2, 1950, in Scottdale, the son of JD "Jake" and Florence (Hixson) Smouse. Gary grew up on the Smouse Family Farm. Then, after graduating from Southmoreland High School in 1968, he attended Duff's Business Institute in Pittsburgh, studying business administration. He then began a career as a crane operator for U.S. Steel, Irvin Works, in West Mifflin, from which he retired many years later. He was an avid sports fan of the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins for years. He is survived by a son, Brian Smouse, of Pittsburgh; and a sister, Claudia Smouse, of Scottdale, and was predeceased by his father, in 1989, and his mother, in 2011. Gary will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
At the request of the deceased, there will not be a viewing or burial service.
If desired, memorial contributions may be given to an organization of your choosing.

I will miss Gary very much. I knew him since I was a little kid I am now 45. My dad worked with him at the mill. He was an awesome man. I am devastated by his passing. Gary's family is in my prayers. Special prayers for his son who he loved so much.

Brian,

So sorry for your loss. I know how much you loved him and enjoyed watching/talking about the Steelers with him.
