George E. Trout

1944 - 2018

George E. Trout, 74, of Greensburg (Humphreys), passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1944, son of the late Paul and Maude Moore Trout. He was employed by Smeltz Oil Co. in Greensburg before founding Hometown Fuel. He was a veteran of the Navy, and served aboard the USS Shangri-La, CVA-38, V-4 Fuel Division. George was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved to garden and spend time with his family. He was especially proud to teach his grandson how to grow a tomato. George was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Police Rod and Gun Club. He was a former midget football coach for the United Steelers, Pleasant Unity Mustangs and Unity Township Cowboys. He enjoyed swimming with his buddies at the Greensburg YMCA. George was a former member of St. Stanislaus Church, and currently a member of St. Florian Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Milton, Ken and Gene; brother-in-law, Joseph Pianko and his wife, Margaret; and sister-in-law, Catherine Pianko. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia (Ginny) Pianko Trout; loving children, Teresa and David Rath, of Latrobe, and George and Jessie Trout, of Irwin; grandson Lincoln; brothers, Jerry and Kim Trout; sister, Roberta Hoffman; aunt, Sally Moore; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Pianko, of Greensburg, Jerry and Ann Gumbita, of Latrobe, and Thomas and Patty Pianko, of Loyalhanna; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt. The rosary will be prayed from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 711 Depot St., Youngwood, with Father William C. McGuirk as celebrant. Please go directly to the church. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery with military rites accorded.
