Gerald Null Obituary
Gerald Irwin "Jerry" Null, 86, of Hunker, passed away peacefully Monday, July 1, 2013, at Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Greensburg surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved. Gerry was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Manor, a son of the late Braden and Sara (Allison) Null. Jerry resided most of his life in Hunker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother, Butch (Braden) Null, and younger brother, Paul Null, who were waiting to welcome him home. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy (Null) Schwirian, of Irwin; wife of 62 years, Elizabeth (Haley) Null; and daughters, Mary (Null) Ramsay, Rose (Null) Todd and Dorothy (Null) Pia. They were proud to call him husband, Dad and Pappy. Mary is married to David Ramsay with a son, Richard. Richard and wife, Tina (Vidakovich) Ramsay, have three children, Justin, Stephen and Rachel Vidakovich. Rose is married to Robert Todd with two daughters, Alison (Mike) Miller and Jennifer (Brandon) Wolfe. Jennifer also has two daughters, Scotlyn and Brynlee Wolfe. Gerald's great-granddaughters always put a sparkle in his eyes when they came to visit. It was common to see him down on the floor playing with them and giving horsey rides. Dorothy (Jerri) is married to John Pia, and they have two sons, Robbie and Aldo. Aldo is married to Janice, with three sons who all reside in Idaho. "Jerry," as so many people called him, enlisted to serve his country in the Navy Jan. 26, 1945, as a Seaman aboard the USS Atherton and USS Amick during World War II. He had many colorful stories that he shared with all who would listen. He was a lifetime member of Hunker Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as fire chief in his younger years. He was also a member of the VFW in Mt. Pleasant and his favorite stopping place was the Hempfield Hunt Club in New Stanton, where he gathered and chatted with so many of his friends. Jerry was a "jack-of-all-trades and was often sought out to answer electical questions and building tips. We will remember his gardening and the hours of canning experienced as a family. Dad could be ornery and his infamous statement was, "You do as I say, not as I do!" Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at the C. RICHARD MCCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood. There will be a blessing service 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Greensburg, with military rites accorded by the Armburst Veterns Asscociation. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Weatherwood Community Care and Rehabilitation Nursing Center of Greensburg. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last few months were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
