Harriet Shatrich

1932 - 2025

Harriet "Cosie" Shatrich, 93, passed peacefully, surrounded by family, to be reunited with her husband, Dan, on Nov. 24, 2025. Cosie was born in Clairton on June 20, 1932, to the late Stojan and Katherine Spanovich. At six months old, Cosie received one of the first emergency tracheostomies, saving her life and giving her the chance to live another 92 years, sharing her love for her family and doing God's will. She was a longtime member of St. Demetrius Serbian Orthodox Church. Cosie's life revolved around God, her husband Dan, family, and her Serbian church and heritage. She was a member of Kolo Srpski Sestara and the Church Choir. "Cosie, Mom, Baba, Harriet" loved Serbian dancing, her Pittsburgh roots, the Steelers, Western movies, and crossword puzzles. She was an outstanding cook and shared her talents with her family and friends. Mom came from a heritage of faith, and we are to cherish and water those roots. Mom's advice was to "Love God with all your heart. Love one another. Do good and be good!" In addition to her parents, Cosie was preceded in death by her husband, Danilo, in 1985; and sisters, Mary Drnach and Gloria DeMedio. She is survived by her children, Steven (Jodi) and Stefanie Shatrich; grandchildren, Danielle, Maria, Jenna, and Nicholas Shatrich; great-grandson, Lennox; and brother, Nick (Joanne) Spanovich; along with a host of nieces and nephews. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever." The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, followed immediately by a funeral service at ANTHONY FUNERAL HOME-AKRON CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St., in Akron.
