Janet M. "Jan" Ruffolo, 78, of New Castle, formerly of North Huntingdon, passed away the morning of Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle. Born in July 1944, in North Braddock, she was the daughter of Stephen and Jean (Anderson) Rogel. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edward V. Ruffolo, whom she married June 4, 1966. Jan was a graduate of Scott High School, Class of 1962, where she was a Head Majorette and May Queen. She received her bachelor's degree in education at the California University of Pennsylvania. She went on to receive her master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Jan was a retired reading specialist for East Allegheny School District at Westinghouse Elementary School. She was also a former member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Jan was an avid golfer and member of Lincoln Hills and then Pleasant Valley Golf Club. In addition to golf, she enjoyed swimming, reading and crossword puzzles. Jan loved the simple things in life. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a "snowbird" spending half her time in Siesta Key and Madeira Beach, Fla., with her daughter, Lianne, and family. She was awestruck by Florida's beauty and the "perpetual spring" it had to offer. She spent the other half of her time in the summer months living at the "Naelitz resort" with her daughter, Lynne, and family and spending time with family at their pool in New Castle. She loved to show her "Steelers" pride everywhere she went. In addition to her husband, Ed, she is survived by two daughters, Lianne (Robert) Snyder, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Lynne (Jason) Naelitz, of New Castle; and three grandchildren, Robby Snyder, Noah Naelitz and Braedon Naelitz. Jan adored her grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments. She enjoyed watching them grow and found joy in being a part of their everyday lives. Nothing was more important to her than family. A daughter of the late Stephen and Jean Rogel (Anderson), she was preceded in death by her Aunt Lillian Anderson (Lins), and other beloved family members. A private celebration of life will be held Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at Antonelli's in Irwin for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made online to help fight pancreatic cancer at
