John J. Benedict Jr.

John J. Benedict Jr., 75, formerly of New Derry and Latrobe, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, in Green Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Aug. 25, 1950, in Latrobe, the son of the late John J. Benedict, Sr., and Anna Marie (Connor) Benedict. John was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Westmoreland Plastics in Latrobe. He was a member of the Derry Rod and Gun Club, where he enjoyed fishing at the lake on their property, and a life member of VFW Post 734 in Ligonier. He also enjoyed going to the casino and playing the slot machines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dianne M. Ruffner. He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Benedict; three grandchildren: Jenna, Jada, and Roman; his niece and caregiver, Gina Dorazio-Goodfellow (Robert); his nephew, Ron Dorazio; a great-niece, Lauryn Granata (Chris); a great-nephew, Corey Gianotti; a great-great-nephew, Bennett Granata; and many longtime friends. John's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and aides on the 300 wing of Green Health and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until noon, Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, in HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at noon in the funeral home chapel with Chaplain Steve Hospodar officiating. Military honors accorded by the Latrobe Derry Veterans Honor Guard will be held immediately following services in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private.
