John N. "Jack" Dempsey, 89, of Latrobe, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Hempfield Manor. Born June 5, 1928, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late William F. Dempsey and Lelia (Schrack) Dempsey. Jack was a member of Holy Family Church and was retired from Latrobe Steel with 39 years' service. He was a Navy veteran, having served in World War II and Korea, and was a life member of Derry Rod and Gun Club. Jack easily made friends, had a great sense of humor and always had a story to tell, but most of all he was truly loved by his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. (Ritenour) Dempsey; a grandson, Samuel McCoy; a brother, William Dempsey; and a sister, Stella Henry. Jack is survived by his five children, Michael A. Dempsey and his wife, Audrey, of Derry, Sandra S. Dempsey, of Latrobe, Steven R. Dempsey and his girlfriend, Lake, of Derry, Robert E. Dempsey and his wife, Debra, of Derry, and Charles A. Dempsey and his wife, Jill, of Fairchance; two sisters, Betty Belan, of Latrobe, and Louise McDonald, of Canton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Adam Dempsey and his wife, Aimee, Mary Moximchalk and her husband, Michael, Gregory Dempsey and his wife, Amy, Jason McCoy and his wife, Rhonda, Christopher Dempsey and his wife, Ashley, Jessica Smith and her husband, James, Jonathan Dempsey and his wife, Mandy, Caleb Dempsey and Jerrett Dempsey; 14 great-grandchildren, Laurel, Alyssa, Michael, Ethan, Elisha, Kylie, Dominick, Chloe, Tory, Leo, Sylvia, Mason, Nolan and Autumn Grace; and he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Hempfield Manor, Excela Health Homecare and Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Amber, for their excellent care and compassion.
At Jack's request, there will be no public visitations. Services and interment are private. Arrangements are being handled by the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe.
