John Hallam Obituary

John R. Hallam, 78, of Belle Vernon, Rostraver Township, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, in his home. Born Nov. 5, 1923, in Bedling, he was a son of the late Charles S. Sr. and Leonvela (Parker) Hallam. Mr. Hallam was maintenance superintendent for Consolidation Coal Company in Murrysville and a private coal mine owner and operator. He was a member of F&AM Lodge 643, Belle Vernon, the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory. He served in the U.S. Navy, Army Guard during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn ``Sue' (Cool) Hallam; a son, John Walter Hallam of Georgia; four daughters, Margaret Jean Rommes of Burgettstown, Cathy Lynn Clark of Monroeville, Karen Maree Gregor of Tionesta and Tina Maria Lindsay of Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Hugh, Gavin, Charles S. Jr., Parker and John Walter Hallam. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Sweeney Plan/Rostraver Township. A Masonic funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home for Brother Hallam by the F&AM Lodge 643, Belle Vernon, followed by military honors for the deceased. Interment, Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills, at the family's convenience.
