John E. Stemple

1948 - 2025

John Edward Stemple, ACSW, 76, of Latrobe, passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, at his home. Born Dec. 21, 1948, in Morgantown, WV, he was the son of the late John J. Stemple and Helen (Barnes) Stemple. Ed was a proud Mountaineer, having graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor's and master's degree in social work. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a licensed clinical social worker for Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. For a short time, he had also been a postal carrier in Morgantown and a part-time jeweler. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron No. 359 in Irwin, and the Italian Miner's Society in Hahntown. An avid hunter, Ed also took great joy in caring for others. His quiet generosity will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol J. (Shifler) Stemple; and two sisters, Mary Beth Stemple and Jewel Wood. Ed is survived by one son, John Stemple, and his wife, Karla; two stepsons, Scott Bowlin and his wife, Erica, and Adam Bowlin and his wife, Jamie; and three grandchildren, Autumn Stemple, Emma Bowlin, and Liam Bowlin. At Ed's request, there were no public visitations or services. Interment was private. Arrangements were handled by LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe.
