Joseph E. Miedel

1937 - 2023

Joseph E. Miedel, 85, of Youngstown, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, at St. Anne Home, Greensburg. Born Oct. 3, 1937, in Youngstown, Pa., he was a daughter of the late Frank Miedel, who died in 1983, and Lydia G. (Musnug) Miedel, who died in 2005. Joseph was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, where he was a lector and a member of the choir. He attended Sacred Heart School and Latrobe High School. For 28 years, he was a truck driver for Pevarnik Brothers Inc. Joseph was a shy, quiet, very religious man who enjoyed listening to baseball games, reading the local newspaper and loved his antique 1941 Chevrolet. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul H. (2002) and Frank F. Miedel (2017); one sister, Marie Baum Bollinger, and her daughter, Geneva Miedel (1988); and a brother-in-law, Carl Tantlinger (2018). Joseph is survived by one sister, Ruth Tantlinger, of Latrobe; a sister-in-law, Bernice Miedel, of Latrobe; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown with the Rev. James Podlesny, OSB, as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery.
