Joseph Spor Obituary

Joseph Robert ``Bob' Spor, 69, of Montrose, Colo., formerly of Greensburg, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo. He was born Oct. 4, 1933, in Greensburg, a son of the late Charles W. and Ethel M. Montgomery Spor. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by Delta Airlines, based in Los Angeles and Phoenix. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 in Co. C of the 1st Battle Group of the 12th Infantry at Fort Lewis, Wash., and at Camp Desert Rock, Nev. Bob was an atomic veteran involved in Operation Plumb Bob and participated in several atomic bomb tests. He also received training in combat intelligence and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ethelreda Brandanio; and two brothers, Bernard and Charles Spor. He is survived by a daughter, Robin and her husband, Chris Madison, of Grand Junction, Colo.; three grandchildren, Emmie, Lucie and Charlie Madison; a brother, Thomas G. Spor of Greensburg; two sisters, Mrs. Jerome (Bernice) Pushnik and Mrs. Floyd (Theresa) Loughner, both of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayers in the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church, South Greensburg, with the Rev. Blane L. Resko, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
