Kathleen "Kathy" May (Brungardt) Fritz, 71, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. Kathy was born in Hays, KS, to Richard and Ruth Brungardt. She was a graduate of Circle High School, Towanda, KS, in 1971 and continued her education by attending Northern Michigan University, receiving her bachelor's in nursing in 1983 and becoming a registered nurse. On January 2, 1987, Kathy married Dennis Bruce Fritz in Dover, DE. Together they became devoted parents to their blended family. Kathy loved being a nurse, and in 1997 she developed a hospice program for in-home hospice. She then began working as a nurse for the VA of Pittsburgh Health System until 2012 and transferred to the VA Health System in Salisbury, NC, where she retired in 2014. While working, Kathy attended Seton Hill University, graduating in 2001 in the first class to receive a master's in creative writing. This led to her writing a book that is now in the Library of Congress. Kathy's hobbies included reading, writing, sewing, and camping with her husband in their "home on wheels". Kathy was a collector of crafts and antiques. Kathy had many talents, including sewing blankets and pillowcases and being a seamstress. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, nana, and loyal friend to countless people. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Bernard Brungardt; her mother, Ruth Marie Brungardt of Kansas; and her dear friend, Marcia Lynn Fritz. Kathy is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis Fritz; her children: son, Kelly (Amiee) Fritz of North Carolina and their children, Alyssa, Christopher, Wren, Hailee and Wells; daughter, Jennifer (Richard) Berardinelli of Pennsylvania and their children, Alexander and Kelsey (Josh Dionis), including soon to be great-granddaughter, Oakley; son, Nathan (Heather) Fritz of North Carolina and their children, Ada and Sadie; son, Joey Fritz of Pennsylvania and his fiancee, Ronda Dupain; and daughter, Brenda (Gary) Leonard of Pennsylvania and their children, Neva, Mason, and Levi; an additional granddaughter, Shaianne Newberry; sister, Roxann (Larry) Norrick of Kansas; sister, Tammy (Barry) Mosley of Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Relatives and friends of Kathy will be received from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, in CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St.,
Greensburg, PA 15601, (724) 837-0020. The Angels of Westmoreland Honor Guard will conduct a service at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, in PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME, with Chaplain Dave Martin officiating. Private interment will take place Wednesday in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA.
