Laura L. (Smith) Nicholas, 81, of North Huntingdon, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, in Magee Women's Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born Feb. 5, 1940, in Irwin, a daughter of the late Samuel and Alma (Frye) Smith. Prior to her retirement, she was self-employed beautician. She was a member of the St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Church in Greensburg and a member of the St. Michael's Antiochian Women. Laura will be remembered for her smile, kind and loving spirit and her Syrian cooking. When Laura married Zeke, she learned how to cook all the Syrian food from her mother-in-law and continued the tradition of bringing grape leaves, kibbee and her signature rice to all family gatherings. Laura was the most loving and caring wife, mother, TaTa, sister, aunt and friend and will be truly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Isaac (Zeke) Nicholas; and eight brothers and sisters, Eva Herold, Betty Zahratka, Alma Jean Heydorn, Louis Smith, Nancy Cognasse, John Smith, Sandra Klaus and William Smith. Surviving are two children, Jack Nicholas, of Penn Township and Lisa Stewart and her husband, Jeff, of Irwin; four grandchildren, Matt and Lindsey Stewart and Christy and Kennedy Nicholas; one sister, Carol Tauber and her husband, Dennis, of North Irwin; and many nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, at OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin. Memorial prayers will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Church, Greensburg.
