Lawrence R. Henckel, 77, of Indian Head, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, in the Oakland VA Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Dec. 3, 1934, in Ohiopyle, a son of the late Lawrence A. and Dora Belle Little Henckel. Lawrence had been a resident of Indian Head for the last 49 years. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Anchor Glass in South Connellsville, first as a foreman in the shipping department and later as a tow motor operator. Lawrence was a veteran of the Army and a member of the Donegal VFW. He was also a former member of the Saltlick Township Firemen and the Connellsville Slovak Club. He had several hobbies that he enjoyed, including deer hunting, fishing, gardening and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a member of St. Raymond of the Mountains Roman Catholic Church in Donegal. Lawrence will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by his loving wife, Eva J. Lilly Henckel, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 4, 2012; his brother, Edward Henckel and wife, Fay, of Painesville, Ohio; his sister, Ruby Maddis, of Melcroft; his goddaughter, Tricia Sparks, of Indian Head; several nieces and nephews; and many, many loving friends. Also a special thanks to his nephew, Mitchell Johnson, and brother-in-law, Namon Lilly, for all of their kind and loving support throughout Lawrence's illness. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., at the corner of Route 711 and 146 Municipal Building Road, Melcroft, (724-455-2310), where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Raymond's Roman Catholic Church, Donegal, with the Rev. Anthony Ditto as celebrant. A committal service and interment will follow in St. Raymond's Cemetery, Saltlick Township. Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the Donegal VFW.
