Mary Lou "Meme" Shuey, 82, of Latrobe, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at her home. She was born July 16, 1931, in Elizabeth, daughter of the late John P. and Marie (Neel) Tierney. Prior to her retirement in 1996, Mary Lou was a fifth grade teacher at Mountain View Elementary School. She was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish in Latrobe. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, cooking and feeding the birds. She loved caring for her family and her two dachshunds, Dutch and Lily. She is survived by three children, Sharon Westerman and her husband, Ralph, with whom she made her home in Latrobe, Sheryl Ochoa and her husband, Ray, of Idalou, Texas, and J.R. Shuey and his, wife, Tracy, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Penrose and husband, Mike, Tierney and Erin Ochoa, Seneca Eiermann and husband, Kyle, and Bobby Jean Shuey; great-grandson, Shawn Penrose and another great-grandson, due any day now, Connor Penrose. Mary Lou's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of Medi Home Hospice for the compassionate care given to her during her illness. Friends and family are welcome to attend a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, in St. Vincent Basilica, Latrobe.
