Matthew R. Gergely

1979 - 2025

Matthew Robert Gergely, age 45, of McKeesport, PA, died on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Oct. 5, 1979, in McKeesport, and is the son of Sofia Lundberg Simile (Steve), of North Versailles, PA, and the late Robert Gergely. Matthew earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He worked in the McKeesport community for twenty years in multiple management and financial positions, including as City Administrator and Chief of Staff to McKeesport Mayor, Michael Cherepko, from 2012 to 2017, and as McKeesport Area School District's business manager from 2017 to 2020. Before he became a PA State Representative, he held the position of McKeesport's Chief Revenue Officer. In 2023, he was elected as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to represent the 35th district. Matthew dedicated his life to serving his community and those in it. In addition to his mother, Matthew is survived by his wife, Holly Warren Gergely; sons, Mason and Jerrett, all of McKeesport; brother, Marc J. (Debbie) Gergely, of White Oak; nephew, A.J. Gergely; nieces, Nicole Gergely, Olivia Gergely, Brianna Kelly; and many cousins, and friends. Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025, and again on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES, INC., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177). All friends to meet at the First Evangelical Free Church, 4001 University Drive, McKeesport, PA 15132, Friday morning for services scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery.
