Maxine Resh Obituary

Maxine Margaret Resh, 93, of Ligonier, PA, passed away peacefully in her home on May 10, 2025. Born Jan. 17, 1932, she is the daughter of John Frederick and Sarah Margaret Pople (nee) Smith. She was the youngest of nine children. Maxine is a 1949 graduate of Connellsville High School, where she met the love of her life, Clarence Wesley (Pete) Resh. They married in November of 1950 and enjoyed more than 60 years together. Maxine and Pete were the owners of Resh's Red and White market in Indian Head, PA, together serving the community for 30+ years. With smiles and warmth for everyone, Max and Pete were welcoming to all. It was during this time that they donated the land that is now Resh's Memorial Park, continuing even now to serve the community they loved with this gathering place. Maxine was a member of the Eastern Star, Amaranth, the PTA, and Indian Head Church of God, where she was a Sunday school teaching assistant. When she had time after running the "store" and raising her children, Max loved to garden and was an avid painter, attending many art classes to improve her skills. She was a very supportive and loving mother, aunt, grandmother, and neighbor, welcoming all of her family and family of friends into her home. She loved big, noisy family gatherings, and all the kids loved being at her home, especially running around the aisles of the store after closing! Max and Pete were always together and devoted to one another. They retired to their beautiful mountain home atop Fowl Hill in Indian Head in the late 1980s until 2013, when they moved to Bethlen Retirement Home in Ligonier, PA. Maxine is predeceased by her husband, Pete; and daughter Elizabeth Harman Resh, and her eight siblings. She is survived by her son, Chris William Resh, and his wife, Valerie McDonald Resh, of Venice, FL; her son-in-law, Steve Blaine Harman, of Bruceton Mills, WV, and Bradenton, FL; her granddaughter, Dr. Megan Sue Harman, and her husband, Dr. Evan Ellison, and great-grandson, Arlie Blaine Ellison, of Asheville, NC. Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 16th, the hour of a funeral service, in the MARK C. BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, LLC., at the corner of Route 711 and 146 Municipal Building Rd., Melcroft 724-455-2310, with Pastor Douglas Nolt officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Champion. A luncheon will be served immediately following at the Indian Head Church of God. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maxine's memory to Camp Sonrise Mountain c/o the Indian Head Church of God, 691 Indian Creek Valley Rd., PO Box 488, Indian Head PA. 15446.

What an amazing and admirable lady! We are so thankful we were able to meet Megan´s precious `Gig´ a few years ago. A wonderful grandmother and a very well lived life. See you on the other side Gig!

Great smile and neighbor.
