Michael Paul Derdich, 40, of Seattle, Wash., formerly of North Huntingdon, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021. He was born July 28, 1981, in McKeesport. He was an Epic trainer at Valley Medical Center in Seattle and was formerly employed at Overlake Medical Center as a respiratory therapist. He is survived by his father and mother, Mark S. and Debra L. (Rost) Derdich, of North Huntingdon, brother, Jaison R. (Carrie) Derdich, of Latrobe, niece, Avery Derdich, nephew, Brennan Derdich, and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Michael's occupation afforded him the opportunity to work/live in Hawaii, Arizona, Alaska and Seattle. Michael's infectious giggle, accompanied by his inviting smile and kind heart, gave him the ability to easily make new friends, many of whom have reached out from across the country. Michael found a home in Seattle. He loved living there and they were lucky to have him. Being a respiratory therapist at the height of the pandemic seemed to further ingrain him in Seattle. Michael will be missed by so many. Family and friends are welcome from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, at the GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 6028 Smithfield St., Boston, Elizabeth Township, 412-751-5000, Drew J. Gilbert, director. Condolences may be made at www.Gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com.

Michael served as a respiratory therapist attending deliveries and breathing life into our littlest and most fragile babies. His legacy lives on in all the lives he saved and the friends he made. I know he looks after us all from beyond. May you find peace in knowing he was loved.

Michael and I started at Queens Medical Center in HI the same day and quickly became friends. Even after we went our own ways on different contracts we remained in contact. When he was on contract in AZ, he and another RT drove to Vegas to celebrate my birthday. He settled in Seatlle and I did a contract there as well and we spent lots of time together exploring the area. Michael just came to visit me in Leavenwoth, WA in September and we spent the day laughing and catching up. In such a short amount of time that I got to know Michael I have some of my fondest memories. He was such a sweet gentle soul and my heart is breaking knowing I will never talk or hug him again. My deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to Michael's family and other friends. I will miss him and think of him often.
