Michael Stupar Obituary
The Very Rev. Michael Stupar Sr., 83, of Penn Hills died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007. He was born and raised in Rankin, a son of the late Jovo and Marta (Martinovich) Stupar, graduated from Rankin High School, served our country during World War II in the Army and retired from U.S. Steel's Homestead Works as a foreman after 32 years of service. While he worked there, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, graduated with a degree in education and earned his master's degree. For 15 years, he was the principal at Forbes Road East Vocational Technical School, Monroeville. He was a lifelong and dedicated member of St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church and at the age of 50 began his ministry as a reader and then a subdeacon and a deacon. He studied at Krka Monastery, Yugoslavia, and at the age of 69 was ordained a Serbian Eastern Orthodox priest on Sept. 19, 1993. He served as a priest at St. Mary Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, Clairton, until retiring. He will be remembered fondly for his deep Serbian Eastern Orthodox faith, his commitment to God, family, church and country, and his life's journey will be an inspiration to all who knew him. Beloved husband of 53 years of the late Protinica Elizabeth (Potoma) Stupar, who shared in his ministry and died Aug. 9. Beloved father of Mark (Cathy) Stupar, Marta (Deacon Seraphim) Solof and the late Michael Stupar Jr., who died Nov. 13, 2006. Beloved grandfather of Katie Stupar and Elizabeth and Joseph Solof. Brother of the late Stephen, Mary and Mildred Stupar and Ann Ledneck. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, Monroeville, where Pomen will be at 7:30. Divine Liturgy will be at 9 a.m. Monday and a funeral service will be at 11 in the church. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
