Paul A. Schmidtke, 88, of North Huntingdon, died Thursday, July 29, 2021. He was born April 4, 1933, in Monarch, a son of the late Rudolph and Emma (Voldek) Schmidtke and was also preceded in death by siblings, James R. Schmidtke, Edwina Hough and Joana Nicolazza. Paul was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the Marines and a retired supervisor for Duquesne Light with 35 years of service. After retirement, he worked for B-Dry Waterproofing and McKeesport Hospital Engineering Department. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Irwin, and the Men's Prayer Fellowship. He was a member of McKeesport-Duquesne Lodge No. 731, Free and Accepted Masons, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh, and Syria Shrine. He was a member of the Bromas Club Golf League and was a longtime member of Pleasant Valley Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley (Bahrenberg) Schmidtke; his children, Teri (Mark) Filson, of North Huntingdon, and Mark Schmidtke, of Beaufort, S.C.; his grandchildren, Shawn (Elissa) Filson, Sally Greenway, Maddie (Spencer) Stipp and Maggie Schmidtke; his great-grandchildren, Jonathan Cooper Greenway and Cameron Filson; siblings, Nancy Kress, of Connellsville, and Jack Edwin Schmidtke, of California; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, PA 15642, 724-863-1200. Masonic funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church, 617 Main St., Irwin, PA 15642. For those attending the funeral service, please go directly to the church. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Redstone Hospice, the Redstone Benevolent Care Fund, or First Presbyterian Church, Irwin. Paul was a wonderful man full of love and kindness. I am honored to have known such a man, and have had the privilege of being his brother. I will miss him greatly, but his laugh and smile will live on forever in my memory. Farewell, my brother.
