Sandra Smail

Sandra Phillabaum Smail, 75, of Ligonier, died Sunday, July 29, 2018, at her home. She was born Sept. 26, 1942, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Albert L. Phillabaum Jr. and Ethel Ludwig Phillabaum. Sandy graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1963. She began her teaching career at Baggley Elementary from 1964-1968 and then taught in the Ligonier Valley School District until her retirement in 1993. She loved to raise and train horses and enjoyed trail riding. She was a member of United Reformed Church of Christ in Greensburg and attended Fort Palmer Presbyterian Church in Ligonier. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Robert H. Smail; and a sister, Linda R. Phillabaum, of Ligonier.
A service to celebrate Sandy's life will be held at a time to be announced at Fort Palmer Presbyterian Church with one of her former students, the Rev. Dr. J. Paul McCracken, officiating. The J. PAUL MCCRACKEN FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. of Ligonier is assisting the family.
