Veronica Trach Obituary

Veronica Trach, 88, formerly of Rillton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at Benbrook Place in Butler. She was born Nov. 4, 1937, in Washington, to the late Michael and Regina (Bajtelsmit) Ozimok. Veronica had a love of family and a nurturing personality supported by her deep faith. Living in Rillton, she and her husband raised five daughters and as a family attended St. Edward Church in Herminie. At St. Edward, Veronica created and led a vibrant prayer group, supported the Pro-Life movement, organized the annual pro-life Prayer Breakfast in Westmoreland County, and was a member of the Sunshine Club. She was also a member of the Rillton VFD Ladies Auxiliary. After raising her family, Veronica's boundless energy led her to start a consignment store, Things Old and New, in Hempfield. She ended her working career as an employee of Mellon Bank in the downtown Pittsburgh headquarters. While living in the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople, Veronica started a prayer group for residents, led a Bible study group, and provided a weekly showing of The Chosen video series. She enjoyed playing contract rummy with her family and loved reading religious literature. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George A. Trach; her daughter, Diane Namestka; her grandson, Jacob George Cowell; and her son-in-law, Richard Stokoski. Veronica is survived by her four daughters, Bernadette (Jim) Garrison of Pittsburgh, Michele Stokoski of Valencia, Veronica (Anthony) Vitari of Ohio, and Karen (Greg) Cowell of Zelienople; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ann (Jon) Tvaroha and family of New Jersey; and her former son-in-law, J. Robert Namestka (Lori) of Irwin. Veronica will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and neighbors. The family would like to thank the staff at Benbrook Place (Lutheran Senior Life) and Good Samaritan Hospice for the wonderful care they provided. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, at JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, 724-446-7251. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, in St. Edward Church, Herminie, with Rev. David Nazimek as celebrant. Please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Edward Church, 120 St. Edward Lane, Herminie, PA 15637. History lovers in town

Yesterday

You enjoyed Christmas so much and really appreciated the yearly firemen selling live trees. As you said there's nothing like the smell of pine for the true Christmas spirit! Our firemen worked so hard selling trees and having the yearly carnival and you ladies helped with the ladies auxiliary. The firemen sold tickets to raise money and always had the fund drive every year. We remember taking pop bottles back to get the refund and then getting ice cream from the ice cream truck that would come around. We had hucksters that would come around and sell their wares. Those were the good old days! Unfortunately we will never have those days back ever again!

Herminie community

Yesterday

You would visit St Stephen's Church in North Huntingdon from time to time because it reminded you of the Byzantine churches that you visited growing up. You also liked visiting St Mary's in Herminie! You admired the beautiful icons and the singing of the cantors. You were so spiritual! You were a real angel!

Eva Bednarz has welcomed you into Heaven along with all of the other Rillton neighbors! Everyone adored you and your family! Rillton misses your family but we'll all be together again in Heaven! You always commented on the outstanding neighbors that you had including the Stasko and Plues families. You were so happy that Rillton had a post office so close by in addition to 2 nice grocery stores. Our town had a fire hall near by with a playground for the children and a VFW for the veterans. At one time we had the Italian hall for events and a yearly carnival for the town. Our town had so much & we now realize what a little melting pot that we had to live in! Rillton had numerous immigrants and so many different languages being spoken daily. The most unusual thing in our town was the different holidays and religions in such a small area. We got to celebrate 2 Christmas days and 2 Easters and 2 New Year's Days with our Orthodox friends! What a time to be alive!!!

Yesterday

You enjoyed meeting the Tammies who danced! You were a wealth of information on the Eastern European cultures and their customs! You could have been a history teacher easily. But God saw to it that you were there for the needy whether it were for prayers or for other needs. You even gave money to the homeless man who was walking around St Edward's Church and the Rillton area for years. You were one of a kind!!!

Rillton neighborhood

Yesterday

You prayed for everyone who came into your life and even ones that you didn't know who were in the public eye. Your new life began Dec 6 which is St Nicholas Day. You mentioned putting out your shoes on Dec 5 to receive something in them for Dec 6. Rillton had numerous Orthodox families at one time & you enjoyed talking to these people because it brought back childhood memories of your heritage! You really took family life and your heritage very seriously!

You loved the Roman Catholic Church but also appreciated your original church roots often stating that the Carpathian Rusyns were people without a particular country. They were nomadic people. You taught us so much about Jesus and also about the history of the church. You were a mother figure to so many people! See you in Heaven good friend!!!
