Virginia G. Amalong

Virginia G. Amalong, 67, of Unity Township, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at Latrobe Health and Rehabilitation Center, Unity Township. She was born Sept. 9, 1947, in Syracuse, N.Y., a daughter of the late Dr. Bruce R. Brummitt Jr., Ed. D. and Phyllis (Otto) Brummitt. Ginny was a graduate of Camden Central High School, attended Penn State University, was a graduate of Seton Hill College, attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and then received her Master of Education from University of Pittsburgh. Prior to retirement in 2006, she taught first grade and kindergarten at Baggaley Elementary School and previously at Mountain View Elementary School, both part of the Greater Latrobe School District. Ginny was a member of Latrobe Presbyterian Church, the NEA and PSEA. She is survived by her husband, Gerald L. Amalong; two daughters, Julie A. Stott and husband, Glen, of Unity Township, and Laurie M. Miller, of Latrobe; three grandchildren, Justin and Zachery Stott and Dylan Miller; her brother, Bruce R. Brummitt III, of Hamburg, N.Y.; a niece, Joelle Yale and husband, David, and their son, Finn, of Pittsboro, N.C.; and a nephew, Michael Brummitt and wife, Katie, and their children, Jacob, Lainey and Kylee, all of Swedesboro, N.J. There will be no visitation or viewing. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Unity Chapel, 114 Chapel Lane, Latrobe, with the Rev. Clark R. Kerr officiating. Private inurnment will be in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township. GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, in charge of arrangements.
