William Ronald "Ron" Filer, 91, of Level Green, died peacefully on Nov. 1, 2025. Ron was born on May 15, 1934, in Lexington, KY, to the late George and Georgia (English) Filer. He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Shirley (James) Filer, whose patient care and devotion allowed him to fight his illness in the peace and comfort of his home; his children, Kirsten Lawrence (Paul), Damian Filer, and Brandon Filer (Amy); and his grandchildren, Julia, Audrey, William, Ella, Avery, and Shane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda (Filer) Jones; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Jones. Ron was a US Army veteran, serving overseas in Germany. He attended Murray State University and taught industrial arts for several years in Louisville, KY, before returning to the University of Cincinnati to study medical illustration. He was employed by the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC as a medical illustrator for over 40 years, and his artwork has been featured in numerous publications and textbooks. Ron remained active until the last few months of his life. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling both here and abroad with his "sweetheart," Shirley, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a true Southern gentleman to the very end. All services will be held privately for the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the JOHN M. DOBRINICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 702 7th St., Trafford, 412-372-3111. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
