William H. Thomas

1926 - 2017

William H. Thomas, 90, of Tarrs, formerly of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017. He was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Upper Middletown, son of the late John and Frances (Vail) Thomas. William was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church, Youngwood, the Fayette Lodge 228 of Uniontown, Tall Cedars Forrest No. 77, Valley of Pittsburgh Scottish Rite, the Pittsburgh Syria Shrine, the camping club Tent-Tra-Hi of Greensburg, Unity Grange. He was the Boy Scout Troop chairman of Troop 471 Norvelt. William was an avid golfer and was the ranger at Cherry Creek Course. He helped organize and manage several credit unions in the area. Surviving are his wife, Margene (Lauttit) Thomas; son, Douglas E. Thomas and wife, Amy, of Grove City; son, Bruce R. Thomas and wife, Dana Jo, of Greensburg; son, Eric K. Thomas and wife, Paula, of Grove City; daughter, Marilyn K. Komarinski and husband, Richard, of Greensburg; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, James V. Thomas and wife, Marje, of Youngwood; brother, David O. Thomas and wife, Kathie, of Grove City; and a sister, Elizabeth Ann Coats and husband, William, of West Palm Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 60 years, Mabel J. (Randolph) Thomas; and brother, Richard J. Thomas.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., 101 S. Fourth St., Youngwood. There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Friday. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. in Pleasant View Presbyterian Church, Smock. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, in Pleasant View Presbyterian Church, Smock, with the Rev. Steve Pankey officiating. Interment will follow in the Lafayette Memorial Park.
