Winston F. Z. Lee, 95, of Delmont, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 12, 2022. He was a beloved husband for 66 years to Margaret Fu-Hua Lee; father to Evan, Kelvin, Ervin and Karen; grandfather to Samantha, Benjamin, Michelle, Jacob, Spencer and Mack; and friend to many. Winston is survived by their remaining children, Ervin (Marla) and Karen (Mark) Lynskey; daughter-in-law, Jody Lee (Kelvin's spouse); and grandchildren. Winston was born in Shanghai, China, to Wang Ming Jiu and Li Wei Yin. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from the National University, Shanghai, China, in 1948, Winston came to the United States to study mechanical engineering at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. By 1952, Winston had earned both his Master of Mechanical Engineering and was awarded the first Doctor of Science degree in the mechanical engineering department. He was a member of Sigma XI National Honor Society, Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. At Carnegie Tech, Winston dedicated more than 20 years of service as a part-time master's and Ph.D. program senior lecturer. In 1952, Winston joined Rockwell Manufacturing as a research engineer, where he advanced to manager of research for Rockwell's Municipal and Utility Division. Winston has more than 20 patents related to products for gas turbine meter measurement. He was awarded Rockwell's first Engineer of the Year award in 1976 and was the 1984 recipient of the International School of Hydrocarbon Measurement Laurence Reid Award for outstanding contributions to hydrocarbon measurement and control. Alongside his commitment to the education of young engineers, and his talents in inventing new technologies, Winston also enjoyed his time relaxing and traveling with family. Winston was an avid tennis and soccer player, swimmer and golfer. In addition to athletics, he enjoyed meeting new people, listening to classical music and watching his favorite Pittsburgh sports teams. His favorite foods came from Sesame Inn, Red Lobster, Lamplighter's breakfast, Outback, Atria's, DeNunzio's, and of course Dairy Queen and Dick's Diner. Winston met the love of his life, Margaret, through the Pittsburgh Chinese Club, and the two were married in 1955. Winston and Margaret were the ultimate hosts and threw frequent parties for their fellow Chinese community members. They made it their mission to foster a sense of community here in Pittsburgh for those who were living far from home. Those who were lucky enough to know Winston know how dedicated and hardworking he was, and more importantly, how much he valued his family. Winston will be missed dearly but will always remain in our hearts. A memorial service for both Winston and Margaret, who passed in January, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Delmont Presbyterian Church. It was Winston and Margaret's wishes to have private burial in July. In lieu of flowers and food, the family requests all donations be made in their honor to Redstone Highlands, Benevolent Care Fund, 126 Matthews St., Suite 2800, Greensburg, PA 15601. This fund ensures that other residents whose life outlives their financial resources can have peace of mind knowing that their care will be continued at Redstone Highlands Senior Care Community.
