Brett Michael Shaffer, 44, of Dixonville, Pa., formerly of Avonmore, passed away Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017. He was born Sunday, Oct. 8, 1972, in Avonmore, the son of Edward E. Shaffer Sr. and the late Loretta "Bonnie" J. Prenni Shaffer. Brett was employed as a carpenter in the construction business. He is a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Avonmore. He was also a member of the PNA No. 1234 and the Italian Club, also in Avonmore. Brett enjoyed kayaking, fishing, golfing and going camping. He had a great appreciation for his friends and helping in any way he could. He placed family and friends above himself. Through stubborn determination, Brett never stopped fighting for what he valued most in life, his children, wife, family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Amy Freeman Shaffer, four children, Tiffany, Chloe and Eddie Shaffer of Penn Hills, and Jaxson Shaffer, of Apollo; a sister, Valerie M. Leda, and her husband, Sean, of New Kensington; three brothers, Shawn B. Shaffer, and his wife, Gwen, of Apollo, Eric V. Shaffer, and his wife, Nadine, of Avonmore, and Lance A. Shaffer, and his wife, Bernadette, of Apollo. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward E. Shaffer Jr.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, in the KELLY L. CORRIDONI FUNERAL HOME LTD., 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, in St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Avonmore, with Father John Harrold as celebrant. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery, Avonmore.
