David Burkett Obituary

David Christian Burkett, 45, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., formerly of Levittown, died Sunday (March 3, 2002) in University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville.

Born in Levittown, he also lived in Fairless Hills before moving to Tennessee five years ago. He was a graduate of Pennsbury High School and Clarion University of Pennsylvania. He was a biology and botany teacher at Laurel High School, Knoxville, a substitute teacher at Oak Ridge High School, a wetlands surveyor at Munro Environmental Services and an apprentice with Bricklayer Local 65, Illinois. He also did work with Cherokee tribes in the Oak Ridge area. Survivors include his wife, Carole Gurney Burkett; a son, David J. Burkett at home; a daughter, Jessica E. Burkett of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two stepsons, Damien (Tammy) Cooper and Julien (Debbie) Cooper of Victoria, Australia; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Fiona Jane (James) Cardona of Victoria; his parents, David R. Burkett of Freeport and Eleanor "Rusty" Stokes Burkett of Oak Ridge; a brother, Curtis L. (Cyndie) Burkett of Kingston, Tenn.; and a sister, Mrs. Cynthia (Clifford R.) Reisser of Lambertville, N.J. A celebration of life service was held Friday at United Church, Chapel on the Hill, Oak Ridge. Memorial contributions may be made to Pacreatic Cancer Action Network, P.O. Box 4809, Palos Verdes, CA 90274. Local arrangements are under the care of DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth St., Freeport.
