Dr. Dennis A. Zelazowski

Dr. Dennis A. Zelazowski, 71, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 23, 2017, after four years of overseas retirement in Thailand. Dennis lost his beloved wife of 31 years, Mercedes (Widmer) Zelazowski, after a long battle with cancer in 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Tillie Zelazowski, of Cheswick. He is survived by his two loving sons, Dennis George, of Hong Kong, China, and Clayton Jon, of Mt. Washington; and his brother, Dr. John W. Zelazowski, of Lower Burrell. Dennis was adored by his many nieces and nephews as well as their children. Doc Z, as he was affectionately referred to by his patients and friends, graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1970 and retired from optometric practice of more than 40 years in 2014. He was past president of The Western Pennsylvania Optometric Society, a member of the American Optometric Association, chapter member of the Strongland Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Lions Club of Lower Burrell. At home, he enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, skiing and golfing. Doc Z was well known for his love of children and kids.
The family will receive friends during a time of remembrance from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May, 28, 2017, in the FRANK F. GIGLER GUNERAL HOME, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068.
