Donald H. Kirkman, 89, of Kiski Township, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021, in the Community Living Center at Butler V.A. Medical Center. Born Nov. 13, 1931, in North Apollo, he was a son of the late Thomas H. Kirkman and Nellie Alberta (Boarts) Kirkman. Don proudly served our country with the Army during the Korean War, where he taught welding.He was the owner-operator of Kirkman Diesel Repair, Apollo, for many years, and helped Raymond Shaw and Merrill "Smitty" Smith with S&S Coal Co., Elderton. Don liked collecting, fixing, and working on things. He enjoyed traveling to Rogers, Ohio, for the famous Rogers Auction.Don also liked riding motorcycles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, H. Thomas Kirkman; and his sister-in-law, Delores Kirkman. Don is survived by his son, Les (Anne Sulava) Kirkman, of Kiski Township; former wife, Glenda Baer, of Apollo; stepchildren, Rick Coulter, of Albuquerque, N.M., Vicki (Mike Snyder) Crooks, of Parks Township, and Paula Verner, of Apollo; four step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; sister, Carole A. Kennedy, of North Apollo; nieces and nephews; and his beloved Beagle mix, Hazel. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2021, at CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo, PA 15613. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021, with Pastor Scott Fairman. Following the service, military honors will be accorded by Armstrong County Memorial Honor Guard. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
