Dorothy Abzanka Obituary

Dorothy Ann Abzanka, 90, went to Heaven on Sunday, April 18, 2021. Dorothy was born in Kecksburg, Pa., and grew up on a farm with her five siblings. As a teenager, she played the cornet in the high school marching band, where a dual appearance with another band from West Deer would first introduce her to her future husband, Edward. "Dot and Ed" got married and he served during the Korean War. The two resided in Fitchburg, Mass., and later moved to Springdale, eventually relocating to Oakmont, where they raised their three children. Always together, this fun couple enjoyed time with their family and a variety of sports. Dot was an avid bowler, and on Friday nights they bowled in the Gulf Research Couples League. She still kept the many trophies they won together and for individual competition. Later, Ed taught Dot how to golf, which she would continue to play for years, including as a member of the Thursday morning Ladies League at Oakmont's East Course. Dot always loved being outdoors and did most of her own yard work well into her golden years. Ed went to Heaven way too early in 1988, where he had been patiently waiting for Dot for more than 32 years. She is survived by her three loving children, Dorothy Culham (and her husband, Wil), of Dallas, Texas, Edward Abzanka, of Cranberry Township, and Brian Abzanka (along with his wife, Renee), also of Cranberry Township; and her grandson, Edward Culham, of Anna, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas Kissell, of Latrobe; along with a multitude of nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021, at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. Masks and social distancing are required; no more than 35 people in the funeral home at a time. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2021, at Holy Family Parish (St. Irenaeus Catholic Church). Interment will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Dot's memory to one of her favorite charities, the Light of Life Rescue Mission in Pittsburgh.

April 21, 2021

Dear,Dottie,Ed and BRY:
I first would like to extend my deepest condolences and prayers, on the loss of your MOM.
I can remember a day or year, she was not tending to the yards or on a ladder cleaning gutters or flying down the alley to go golfing! I am deeply saddened by this news. The neighborhood will not be the same without her.
She was a good lady i have known for well into 60 years and will still look for her as I travel the street or alley. She is free of pain and restrictions ,which did fit her style, and she his now with Big Ed who I always enjoyed talking too especially on Paper delivery day. He was full of encouragement and always a gentlemen. With that my prayers
to your family.Stay strong for she is at peace now.
Sincerely
Nat Mastro
