Emma Elizabeth (Kemp) Headen, 92, of Arnold, passed away Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born May 11, 1929, in Arrington, Va., to the late Jacob and Elizabeth Irvin Kemp. Emma loved to cook and clean, listen to the baseball games, and loved spending time with people, especially her family. She was "Granny" to everyone who loved her. Emma was a member of the previous Bethel AME Church and attended several churches in the valley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Streaby L. Headen; daughter, Carolyn Jean Nabors; son, Leroy L. Headen Sr.; good friend, James McMillan; siblings, Lilly King, Ethel Samuels, Mary Kemp, Thomas Kemp and James Mansfield Kemp; and grandchildren, Chanima Dixon, Reginald Dixon, Keyane Houser and Victor Jones. Emma is survived by her children, David (Floria) Headen, James Headen, Victor (Threase) Headen, Linda (LaVerne) Manley, Mary Burke, William Headen, Reginald Headen, Barbara (Dennis) Powell and Donald Clay; siblings, Floyd (Bonnie), Lester (Debbie), William (Rose) and Harvey (Shirley) Kemp; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins. Family and friend will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, in the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 1150 Fourth Ave., New Kensington. A funeral service will be held immediately following this visitation at 11 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Edward Carter Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
